Reaccepting/Rekvittering

We are obliged to ask all users of the Unix*) network to reaccept the general guidelines valid for the Unix network once a year. For reaccepting you will have to login to the server badne7.ux.uis.no via ssh. Please note that you do not need to be at the university for logging in to badne7; you can do this from wherever you have an internet connection.

The following chapters describe how to proceed under Linux, Windows, Mac OS X and Android.

Linux

  • Open a terminal window and enter the command ssh <username>@badne7.ux.uis.no (replace <username> with your Unix username)
  • If this is the first time you establish a connection to badne7 you will see the message "The authenticity of host 'badne7.ux.uis.no (152.94.1.67)' can't be established. RSA key fingerprint is e1:25:5f:48:af:30:45:a3:84:30:73:14:99:fc:8f:ea. Are you sure you want to continue connecting (yes/no)?" answer with yes
  • Enter your password when prompted
  • You have successfully logged in when you see a command prompt like <username>-badne7:~$
  • Enter the command rekvitter --english (note that the command is case sensitive)
  • Read the displayed text; press enter.
  • Read the displayed guidelines for using the Unix system (currently only available in Norwegian). You advance to the next screen page by pressing the blank key.
  • Once you read "Do you accept the policy <your name> ? (yes/no): " enter yes for reaccepting the current guidelines.
  • After a successful reacceptance you will read "Reacceptance completed".
  • You can run the rekvitter command as often as you like; the last given answer counts.
  • Log off from badne7 by pressing Ctrl+d

Windows

  • Under Windows you will need an ssh client in order to connect to our server badne7. On geolab workstations, the ssh client PuTTY is installed (if you want to use your own PC you can download PuTTY here: http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/download.html).
  • Open PuTTY by selecting the corresponding entry from the Windows start menu:

PuTTY entry in the start menu

  • In the PuTTY configuration window do the following:
