SSHFS is a filesystem client based on the SSH File Transfer Protocol. This client will enable you to work with remote files, ex. the files on your Unix-account, as if they where located locally, ex. on your C: harddrive smile

SSHFS on GNU/Linux

SSHFS is available in all GNU/Linux distributions. Installing and using SSHFS on GNU/Linux is easy.

Installing SSHFS

In Ubuntu, as root or run it with sudo:

apt-get install sshfs

To mount student theo's HOME on the local mountingpoint $HOME/ux (run as ordinary user, not root!):

cd ; mkdir ux ; sshfs ux

That's it, now your Unix-account files are locally accessible in the ux directory smile

To unmount:

cd ; fusermount -u ux

If you get an error message like fusermount: failed to open current directory: Permission denied try setting, temporarily, a more relaxed file permission on you HOME:

cd ; chmod g+rx . ; fusermount -u ux ; chmod g-rx .

SSHFS on Mac
